SolidNature announces the launch of the 'Swivel' series by Sabine Marcelis as part of their permanent purchasable collection

The monumental pieces by the acclaimed Dutch designer will be presented during the first edition of MATTER and SHAPE in Paris and will be available to fully customize and purchase through SolidNature’s website

Paris, 1 March 2024 - Natural stone brand SolidNature is proud to announce its participation to the first edition of MATTER and SHAPE (1 - 4 March) with an interactive installation of the Swivel series by Sabine Marcelis, launching the collection for sale on SolidNature’s website.

The brand new business-focused design salon, powered by WSN, led by fashion veteran Matthieu Pinet as director, with creative direction by journalist Dan Thawley, will make its debut in Paris during Paris Fashion Week in the Jardin des Tuileries.

For this exciting new platform SolidNature will present an interactive installation expanding on the family of rotating chairs titled Swivel with the addition of a table. The pieces, designed by award winning Dutch Designer Sabine Marcelis, will be positioned at the very entrance of the ephemeral building in the historical gardens welcoming viewers into the space and encouraging interchange between an object and its user. Following MATTER and SHAPE, the Swivel collection will form part of SolidNature’s permanent product offering, available to purchase on their website as a fully customisable one-of-a-kind piece of collectible design.

For Swivel, Marcelis explores a diverse selection of natural stones from SolidNature’s extensive collection, including Stormy Glacier Marble, Orchidea Marble, Sunflower Onyx, and Kamilia Rose Marble. Handpicked from a range of granites, quartzites, marbles, and travertines, these stones harmonize with the surroundings in the Jardin des Tuileries while defying gravity on a single support, inviting visitors to engage with them. The table, which is the newest addition to the family of products, showcases an of-centre point of rotation offering a different perspective in relation to the chairs and the option to expand its surface creating everchanging tablescapes.

David Mahyari, CEO, SolidNature explains that ‘with the addition of Swivel to our permanent collection of purchaseable pieces we aim to open up our unique point of view and collaborations with the most prominent designers to collectors all over the world’

He adds: ‘We are delighted to have been approached to participate in the first edition of MATTER and SHAPE. Our work best shines at the intersection of industries in the luxury sector; whether it is design, architecture or fashion and MATTER and SHAPE is the perfect platform to showcase this alongside a roster of like-minded brands.’

Elaborating on this Dan Thawly explains: ‘Positioning MATTER and SHAPE as a business-focused design salon during Paris Fashion Week is a bold step in aligning the design world with the fashion calendar and allowing a greater cross-over of commerce between these two worlds.’

I'm very excited to show the Swivels in a new context at ‘Matter and Shape’ which proposes a new type of design fair. Says Sabine Marcelis, ‘What started as a site specific installation for the Saint Giles square in London can now live on in other contexts by making them purchasable alongside SolidNature's other projects.

Marcelis continues saying: Long term relationships are very important to me. It's always so nice to work with SolidNature who I have a long standing relationship with and it makes so much sense to showcase this project at Matter and Shape, which is curated by Dan Thawley, who I also have a long standing relationship with.

About Sabine Marcelis

Sabine Marcelis is a Dutch designer who runs her practice from the harbour of Rotterdam. After graduating from the Design Academy of Eindhoven in 2011, Marcelis began working as an independent designer within the fields of product, installation and spatial design with a strong focus on materiality. Her work is characterised by pure forms which highlight material properties.

Marcelis applies a strong aesthetic point of view to her collaborations with industry specialists. This method of working allows her to intervene in the manufacturing process, using material research and experimentation to achieve new and surprising visual effects for projects both showcased in museums and commissioned by commercial clients and fashion houses. Sabine considers her designs to be true sensorial experiences and not simple static works: the experience becomes the function, with a refined and unique aesthetic.

Sabine recently won the prestigious 2023 Elle Deco International Design Award ‘Designer of the Year’, the 2023 Monocle Magazine ‘Designer of the year’ as well as the Wallpaper awards ‘ Designer of the year 2020’, the Design Prize 2019 in the 'Newcomer of the year' category, The Elle Deco International Design award 2019 'Young designer of the year’ and ‘GQ Men of the year 2019’ International Artist of the year.
