SolidNature launches 'Breton Cubes': a timeless homage to iconic style ​ 

Amsterdam, November 2023: The award winning natural stone brand SolidNature, in collaboration with leading Danish designer Birgitte Due Madsen, introduces the Breton Cubes, a stunning fusion of timeless style and sustainable design that pays homage to the iconic Breton stripe.

The Breton stripe, made famous by the navy and white sailor shirt known as the Breton sailor shirt or marinière, has a rich history. Originally designed for sailors in the French Navy to make overboard sailors easier to spot, each stripe is said to symbolize one of Napoleon Bonaparte’s victories. In 1917, Coco Chanel's Nautical Collection featuring the Breton shirt propelled this garment into popular culture.

Now, the Breton stripe has been reimagined in a total 3D object, with its classic lines transformed into contrasting graphic elements. When viewed from various angles, these cubes come alive with endless possibilities of geometric beauty. The top surface of each cube boasts a unique design that enriches the natural beauty of the stones, whether it's the mirroring concept of the pink and green tops, the symmetrical movements of the blue top, or the dynamic flow of the red top.

Designed with mobility in mind, the Breton Cubes are equipped with wheels, allowing them to be easily moved around rooms as needed. They are crafted from offcuts of larger slabs of onyx, marble, and travertine, embodying a sustainable approach to design. The use of various natural stone colors creates a striking contrast with rich whites or creams, enhancing the graphic Breton-stripe-inspired pattern.

To maximize sustainability, the Breton Cubes are made from smaller offcuts of larger stone slabs, creating a visually striking effect and tactile surface. The podiums without wheels are available in: Green / white Herringbone (74x40x40), Red / white Vertical (59x40x40), Light blue Onyx / Travertine (60x35x35) and Rosa Onyx / Travertine (74x36x36) as well as customisable sizes between 30x30cm and 50x50cm up until a height of 120cm.
